Because some moms simmer… and some moms sprint.
Mother’s Day is a celebration of all the ways moms show love, from the quiet ways to the loud ways, and of course, the everyday ways. Some moms express it in slow, simmering patience. Others express it in the magic of getting dinner on the table in 20 minutes flat.
At Kiss the Cook Catering, we believe both deserve a place at the table. So this year, we’re sharing two Mother’s Day pasta recipes:
- one for the mom who moves fast,
- and one for the mom who savours the slow simmer.
Both are warm, comforting, and made with love, just like her. Whether you’re planning a homemade celebration or exploring Mother’s Day catering in Toronto, these dishes bring that same heartfelt experience home.

Tips and Pairings to Make Mother’s Day Dinner Extra Special
A good pasta sauce is already a gift, but a few thoughtful touches can turn it into a full, memorable Mother’s Day meal. These ideas work beautifully with either sauce, depending on which mom you’re celebrating.
Helpful Tips for the Cook
- Warm the bowls before serving. A quick rinse with hot water keeps the pasta steamy and cozy all the way to the table.
- Salt the pasta water generously. It should taste like the sea — this is the simplest way to make the whole dish taste better.
- Finish the pasta in the sauce. Let the noodles simmer in the sauce for the last minute; it helps everything cling together.
- Use fresh cheese if you can. A block of Parmigiano Reggiano grated right over the top adds richness and feels special.
- Let the moment be slow, even if the recipe isn’t. Light a candle, put on music, and make the meal feel like a celebration.
Perfect Pairings for Either Pasta Recipe
- A bright green salad with lemon vinaigrette to balance the richness.
- Warm crusty bread or garlic toast for dipping into the sauce.
- Roasted seasonal vegetables, such as asparagus, zucchini, or cherry tomatoes.
- A simple dessert such as berries with whipped cream, a small slice of tiramisu, or a scoop of gelato.
- Sparkling water with citrus slices for a refreshing, family-friendly touch.
And honestly? This meal, whether you make the quick version or the slow one, is one of our all-time favourite family dinners. It’s the kind of dish that gathers people, fills the kitchen with warmth, and reminds everyone why food is one of the simplest, sweetest ways to say I love you.
Whichever sauce you choose this Mother’s Day, serve it with gratitude, a generous sprinkle of cheese, and a moment to appreciate the mom at the table.
Bon Appetite!
